Qatar Joins GCC Meeting in Bahrain to Enhance Regional Social Development Cooperation

Qatar has taken part in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting aimed at bolstering regional cooperation in social development, held in Bahrain. Represented by Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, the discussions focused on enhancing coordination among GCC member states and developing collective initiatives to tackle social challenges within the region.

The meeting emphasized the importance of sharing expertise to improve social welfare, family support, and community development. Key topics included reviewing the implementation of existing Gulf-wide decisions and discussing the committee’s work plan for 2026–2030. Participants explored strategies to improve social programs and ensure these initiatives adapt to changing community needs.

Disability rights were a significant focus, with discussions including the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and a proposal to establish a regular Gulf forum on disability issues. The impact of artificial intelligence on children’s rights was also examined, alongside the opportunities and challenges posed by emerging technologies. Plans for a regional report on the state of children’s rights in GCC countries were discussed, with further coordination on childhood protection and welfare being a priority.

Additionally, the ministers considered strengthening cooperation on women’s issues and exploring new initiatives to advance social development across the Gulf region. The meeting provided a platform for member states to align their social development goals and address common challenges.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Al Nuaimi attended a ceremony recognizing notable individuals and projects in civil social work. Several Qatari figures and initiatives received accolades for their contributions, highlighting Qatar’s active role in promoting social development within the GCC framework.
