Qatar has urged the international community to enhance cooperation for sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of addressing challenges faced by developing nations. Speaking at a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative in New York, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, highlighted key issues such as financing and debt pressures, food insecurity, climate change, and energy insecurity.

The minister stressed that achieving sustainable and inclusive development is crucial for ensuring long-term peace, stability, and prosperity. She called for increased international efforts to close the development financing gap and provide greater resources to developing countries, particularly those classified as least developed nations.

Qatar also advocated for stronger commitments to development finance and climate action, as well as reforms to the international financial system to better support these countries in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. Al Misnad pointed out the potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in promoting sustainable development, while cautioning that unequal access to these technologies could exacerbate existing disparities.

To address this, she called for enhanced cooperation in areas such as technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and the development of digital skills. Qatar reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable development through its National Vision 2030 and various international partnerships.

The country highlighted its contributions to poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience efforts in vulnerable countries. Qatar’s call for stronger global cooperation aims to ensure that developing nations can overcome the challenges they face and make significant progress towards sustainable development goals.
