Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and economic recovery, with plans to enhance cooperation in the energy and electricity sectors. This announcement came during discussions between Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

The talks, which focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional tensions, also highlighted Qatar’s continued assistance to Lebanon across key sectors such as education, healthcare, and economic development. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Doha’s support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, emphasizing their role in maintaining national security and stability.

A significant outcome of the discussions was an agreement between QatarEnergy and France’s TotalEnergies to jointly develop a solar power plant in Lebanon, marking a pivotal step toward broader energy cooperation. Additionally, Lebanon is advancing towards a joint project to modernize its electricity generation infrastructure, which will be executed under a build-operate-transfer model. This arrangement is expected to proceed without requiring upfront investment from the Lebanese treasury, as stated by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

Amidst these developments, Qatar expressed concern over escalating hostilities in Lebanon, condemning Israeli attacks on peacekeeping forces and violations of Lebanese territory. Sheikh Mohammed called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, an end to hostilities, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese areas.

Prime Minister Salam welcomed Qatar’s ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian assistance, noting its significant contribution to reconstruction efforts and support for Lebanese state institutions. He emphasized that cooperation in energy, electricity, and investment would bolster the economy, facilitate reconstruction, and help displaced residents return to their communities.

Qatar remains committed to collaborating with international partners to strengthen Lebanon’s security and stability and support its long-term recovery, ensuring a more prosperous future for the Lebanese people.
