In a fresh wave of assaults, Russia launched missile and drone strikes on Kyiv Sunday, resulting in at least one fatality and injuring 13 others, as confirmed by Ukrainian officials. These attacks followed Ukraine’s recent targeting of Russian logistics facilities and warehouses.
Explosions reverberated throughout Ukraine’s capital soon after air-raid alerts sounded, cautioning residents about incoming ballistic missiles. The strikes impacted six districts within Kyiv, with the Solomianskyi district seeing damage to an apartment building. Fires erupted at a supermarket and a residential property in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Other strikes targeted a shopping and entertainment center in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential facility.
In addition to the attacks on Kyiv, a Russian drone assault claimed another life in the central Dnipropetrovsk region. Meanwhile, on Russian soil, officials reported one death in the Kursk region due to a Ukrainian strike.
This escalation comes on the heels of Ukrainian drone operations against logistics sites in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions. Ukrainian authorities claimed these facilities were involved in supplying components for drone production and navigation systems. In recent months, Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes on Russian infrastructure and energy facilities, responding to ongoing Russian bombardments since the conflict began in 2022.
Concurrently, Ukraine is dealing with internal political tensions following a recent government reshuffle. Protests erupted in several cities for the third consecutive day over the removal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, fueling speculation about potential broader changes within the nation’s military leadership.
