The relationship between ASEAN and Qatar took a significant step forward when Qatar was designated an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2026, following its accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2022. This development marks an evolving phase of collaboration that seeks to harness the potential of both regions.
With ASEAN representing a substantial market of over 680 million people and an economy valued at approximately $3.9 trillion, Qatar sees significant opportunities for expansion. Both parties are keen to explore ventures in renewable energy, green technology, sustainable infrastructure, smart cities, and digital transformation, aiming to align with global sustainability goals.
Collaboration has been expanding in various fields such as energy, investment, education, connectivity, humanitarian assistance, and sustainable development. These efforts are bolstered by increasing high-level exchanges between the regions. The ASEAN Committee in Doha emphasizes the importance of fostering stronger business links and cultural exchanges, promoting practical cooperation between ASEAN member states and Qatar.
