Qatar has reiterated its endorsement of a two-state solution as the foundation for lasting peace in the Middle East, emphasizing the importance of international law and United Nations resolutions. This message was delivered by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, during a ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Al Khulaifi underscored the need for establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He stressed that this state should coexist peacefully with Israel. Furthermore, Qatar urged countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to do so, highlighting the importance of international recognition in advancing peace efforts.
The Qatari minister expressed concerns over actions that are jeopardizing the prospects of a two-state solution, specifically pointing to ongoing settlement expansions, land seizures, and settler violence in the West Bank. He also highlighted measures affecting the status of religious sites in the area as detrimental to peace efforts.
Al Khulaifi also addressed the conflict in Gaza, noting that the war and the resulting humanitarian crisis pose a significant threat to regional stability and efforts for a political resolution. He assured that Qatar remains committed to diplomatic efforts, collaborating with Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye to support ceasefire and peace initiatives.
In addition to its diplomatic endeavors, Qatar reaffirmed its dedication to providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians and supporting international efforts aimed at improving living conditions in Gaza. This commitment is part of Qatar’s broader objective to advance a sustainable political solution in the region.
