Audrey Werro delivered an exceptional performance to secure victory in the women’s 800m at the Ultimate Championships in Budapest, surpassing Britain’s Olympic gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson to claim the $150,000 top prize. The 22-year-old Swiss athlete completed the race in 1:55.88, while Hodgkinson finished in 1:56.26, followed by Femke Broeders-Bol in third place.
From the outset, Werro took charge and maintained her lead, accelerating decisively over the final 300 meters. This triumph concluded a remarkable season for Werro, who has won 14 of her 15 outdoor races, establishing herself as a dominant force in the 800m category worldwide.
Hodgkinson, who has been contending with injuries throughout the season, expressed pride in her performance, especially after recovering from a hamstring injury that hampered her speed training needed to compete against Werro.
In another event, Georgia Hunter Bell secured second place in the women’s 1500m, trailing behind Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska. Kazimierska clocked in at 3:57.55, narrowly edging out Hunter Bell by 0.15 seconds. Hunter Bell earned $75,000 for her runner-up finish, capping off a strong season highlighted by major championship victories.
The women’s 100m race also witnessed a standout performance, with world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden taking the win in 10.62 seconds, marking the fastest time globally this year. Olympic champion Julien Alfred came in second with a time of 10.74, while Sha’Carri Richardson secured third place, finishing in 10.76 seconds.
